Music in the Digital Age
Modern Day Technology and Music
Do you know artists earn money from their music?
For every sale of a CD, DVD or even the old fashioned cassette tapes, they would get a percentage from that.
If you have noticed, should a song top the billboard charts that do not automatically mean that the artist’s album would be bestowed a platinum award. The platinum award is given to an artist whose sales of their records or album would reach more than a thousand.
In this case, have you ever considered if downloaded songs are included in the sales of albums or songs.
In reply to that question, they are not.
There are sites that help monitor songs that are downloaded, and these sites definitely help an artist.
Although, if you take time to check what the most commonly downloaded songs are, pop songs would top that list. Songs from the more famous singers like Britney Spears, Jonas Brothers, and singers and band groups from their genre would also be included in that list.
What is essential about music in the digital age is realizing that people do not limit the listening of songs through the use of compact discs, DVD, or the radio alone. Because of modern technology, an individual is able to listen to a song, save it in his mobile phone, and use it as ring tones by downloading a favorite song from the internet.
That is what it means to be in the new age.
To make sure everything else is on the same page, awards, money, revenue; all these things have to be upgraded, so to speak.
Songs should not be credited only from a sale of discs, there should be sites, and software that should give giant music companies the capacity to measure and know how truly famous and popular a song is, based on the number it has been downloaded on the net.
